Field Closure Procedures
by posted 04/26/2016

Field Closure Procedures:

The Recreation Commission Department has the final say in all matters of opening and closing the fields.  KYSO is the official tenant, so they can also close a field.  Ideally it is a collaboration between the Rec Comm, KYSO and KYBSL to make decisions based on safety and potential damage to town property to open or close fields.  Here are some guidelines:

  • A field will be closed if there is standing water with continued rainfall.
  • A field will be closed if standing water cannot be removed prior to game time.
  • A field will be closed if soil conditions affect the safety of the participants.
  • A field will be closed if you can raise standing water while walking/standing with continued rainfall.

KYBSL will make every effort to cancel the games during the week by 4:00pm.  However, this is not always possible.
Once teams arrive, the Head Coach of the home team will make the decision up until game time.
Once the game has started it is up to the Umpire to cancel/delay the game.

When the fields are closed via the web site, a notification will automatically be sent to the players/parents on the teams that are affected by the closure.  Coaches can also send out change or cancelation notices via the web site.

NOTE: It is up to the parents/players to setup their notification preferences in the system and make sure that email address(es) and text numbers are correct.
